Privacy Policy for Skew The Script’s Data Science & AI Bootcamp
Your privacy is very important to us. Part of our operation of the Data Science & AI Bootcamp involves the collection and use of information about students, their guardians, and teacher-users. This privacy policy explains what type of information we collect and what we do with that information to allow students, guardians, and teacher-users to make choices about the way their information is collected and used. This privacy policy may change from time to time, so please check it often.
Information Collected
Personal data is any information about a person from which that person can be identified. We may collect, use, store and transfer different kinds of personal data about students, guardians, and teacher-users which we have grouped together as follows:
Student data: includes first name, last name, and e-mail address of any student, along with their responses to application and survey questions. These responses may include information on the name of their school, name of the city in which their school is located, name of the state in which their school is located, their years of coding experience, and their grade level, among others.
Guardian data: includes first name, last name, and e-mail address of any parent/guardian of a student enrolled in the bootcamp
Teacher-user data: includes first name, last name, and e-mail address of any teacher-user of the asynchronous K12 teacher bootcamp, along with their responses to application and survey questions. These responses may include information on the name of their school, name of the city in which their school is located, name of the state in which their school is located, their years of coding experience, and the classes they teach, among others.
Usage data: includes information about how students and teacher-users use our bootcamp materials and their coursework.
Technical data: includes internet protocol (IP) address and related information.
Volunteered data: information volunteered by student, guardian, or teacher-user, such as survey information, answers to prompts, feedback, and/or site registrations; and e-mail addresses of those who communicate with the organization via e-mail.
We also collect, use and share Aggregated Data such as statistical or demographic data for any purpose. Aggregated Data could be derived from student and teacher-user personal data but is not considered personal data because this data will not directly or indirectly reveal an individual’s identity. For example, we may aggregate student and teacher-user usage data to calculate the percentage of users that correctly answered a question in the bootcamp.
How Do We Use Information We Collect?
We collect personally identifiable information about students, guardians, and teacher-users to:
provide the services students, guardians, and teacher-users request and optimize the user experience;
analyze the effectiveness of our learning programs and bootcamps;
send emails to students, guardians, and teacher-users;
administer student and teacher-user accounts and respond to student, guardian, or teacher-user questions;
notify students, guardians, or teacher-users of any changes to our bootcamps or services that may affect them; and
be able to generate statistics and insights based on Aggregated Data to understand the effectiveness and reach of our materials, site, and organization.
When students, guardians, and teacher-users submit personally identifiable information to us, they understand that they are agreeing to allow us to access, store, and use that information for the purposes set forth in this policy.
Do We Share Your Information?
Skew The Script does not sell personally identifiable information to third parties. Personal data is shared with our bootcamp partner organization, CourseKata. CourseKata’s privacy policy can be found here. Beyond CourseKata, we share information with third parties only under the following circumstances:
We will use and disclose personal data as we believe to be necessary or appropriate: (a) to comply with applicable state and federal laws; (b) to respond to requests from public and government authorities; (c) to cooperate with law enforcement; (d) to protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and that of our affiliates, students, guardians, teacher-users, or others.
We engage third party companies and individuals to perform various services on our behalf - for example, without limitation, storing passwords (Canvas) to log into the coding platform and evaluating the effectiveness and reach of our materials, site, and organization. We may share personal information with these third parties so that they may perform tasks on our behalf, and they are prohibited by us from using or disclosing that information for any purpose other than to provide this assistance, except to the extent required by law.
We also collect, use, and share Aggregated Data for any purpose.
We do not otherwise sell, trade, rent, or transfer to outside parties personally identifiable information. We also do not engage in targeted advertising based on personal information.
Children’s Privacy
We do not specifically market to nor collect information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe that we have inadvertently gathered personally identifiable information from a child under 13 years of age, please contact us via email (contact@skewthescript.org). We will delete any verified unauthorized information.
Special note on Canvas:
To participate in the Data Science & AI Bootcamp, students and teacher-users will have to make an account on the Canvas web platform (the learning management system that hosts the bootcamp), which entails sharing their email address and names with Canvas and Skew The Script (including Skew The Script bootcamp instructors). Making an account allows students and teacher-users access to all bootcamp sessions and materials. The account will also allow students and teacher-users to save their work and come back to it in the Canvas platform, which is necessary for completing the bootcamp.
Canvas’s privacy policy and use of this information can be found here.
Security Breach Notification
If we discover a security breach of our site has occurred where personal information is improperly accessed or disclosed, we will first patch the breach and start assessing the extent of what happened. We will work to promptly notify all affected users by email and comply with all applicable laws regarding the security breach.
Please be aware that no method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage is 100% secure and we are unable to guarantee the absolute security of the personal information we have collected.
